Twenty-two year old professional Adam Hadwin capped off his 2010 tournament season in style, winning the Vancouver Open with 54-hole score of 10-under par. Hadwin earned victory with a three shot victory over Californian Professional Isaac Weintraub.

At the end of 9 holes during the final round, it appeared the event was shaping up to be a two-man battle, as Hadwin took a one shot lead over the southpaw Weintraub into the back nine at -11. However, birdies on holes #11 and #14 by Nanaimo’s Darren Griff of the Canadian Tour took him to -8 and only 3 shots off the pace. However, an unfortunate double-bogey on #17 derailed his chances of winning the title and he ended up t3rd in the Championship, tied with fellow Canadian Tour player Oliver Tubb.

Weintraub’s charge for the win came to a end on hole #14 with an out-of-bounds second shot resulting in a double-bogey 7 on the hole. Hadwin took full advantage on the same hole with a birdie – four on the 520 yard par 5. This would give him a comfortable margin of 3-shots with four holes to play, which he would not relinquish coming in.

Isaac WeintraubHadwin’s victory came from three solid rounds of 69, 66 and 69 at Fraserview, Langara and McCleery, earning him a $7,500 winner’s cheque as well as getting his name etched on the coveted Vancouver Open trophy. Weintraub collected $4,5000 for his 2nd place showing – a nice way to cap off his season as he has been recovering from an injury that took him off the Canadian Tour in 2009.

Local Professionals Phil Jonas and Bryn Parry tied with Victoria’s Stuart Anderson in a 3-way tie for 5th at 5-under par. Each took home $1,267.00 for their play. All totalled, this year’s Vancouver Open contestants played for over $55,000 in Cash and Prizes, including a $30,000 Professional Purse which is up $10,000 from 2009.

Hadwin’s 2010 Vancouver Open victory was icing on the cake for what has been a remarkable year of golf, including two runner-up finishes on the Canadian Tour and a 3rd place finish on the Can Tour Order of Merit. A 27th place finish at the Gretzky Classic on the Nationwide Tour and Low Canadian honours at the RBC Canadian Open on the PGA Tour made Adam Hadwin Canada’s hottest Professional in 2010.

At the conclusion of the 54-hole Vancouver Open event, an overall Gross and Net Amateur Champion for the event were crowned. Maple Ridge’s Kris Yardley played some very steady golf with rounds of 73, 73, 70 and captured the Overall Amateur Title, out-beating 20 year old Richmond Country Club member David Cao by one shot.

Port Coquitlam’s Murray Reed, a regular player on the VGT, took home Low Net honours in the field with a 3-day net score of 212 (-2). Both Yardley and Reed took home 32G Apple Ipads for their victories. For full results of the 2010 Vancouver Open, please click here: www.vancouveropen.ca.
