Canada’s Conners finishes tied for 9th at Porter Cup

Team Canada’s Garrett Rank ties for 15th

A 2-under par 68 during the final round of the Porter Cup at Niagara Falls Country Club in Lewiston, NY helped Corey Conners to solid T9th finish.

The Listowel, Ont. native pieced together rounds of 66-67-7268 to finish 7-under par at the 6,871 yard, par 70 layout.

Conners was Canada’s top finisher.

Trailer Conners by two-shots at 5-under par was Garrett Rank. Rank, a Team Canada member from Elmira, Ont., shots rounds of 69-68-66-72 to tie for 15th spot.

Mackenzie Hughes will have some momentum to build on when he takes to Hamilton Golf and Country Club next week for the RBC Canadian Open, Canada’s only stop on the PGA TOUR. The Dundas, Ont. native, who is also a member of Team Canada finished at 3-under (71-68-69-69) which left him in a tie for 18th.

Daniel Kim of Toronto tied for 30th at 1-over par (70-69-71-71).

Justin Shin of Maple Ridge, BC dropped a few spots on the leaderboard Saturday, starting the day tied for 25th, but fell to a tie for 42nd at 3-over after a final-round 74 (68-70-71-74).

Stephane Dubois picked up 10 spots during the final round thanks to a 69 Saturday. Dubois, from Brantford, Ont. finished tied for 50th (70-69-77-69) at 5-over.

Mitch Sutton of London, Ont. finished 6-over par (68-71-74-73), which was good enough for a tie for 54th.

Simon McInnis of Toronto tied for 58th at 7-over par (71-74-69-73).

Brandon Ng (73-76-75-72) of Toronto which left him in a tie for 72nd.

Rounding out the Canadians in the field was Alex Carrigan of Guelph, Ont. who finished 76th (75-76-78-76) at 25-over.

Richy Werenski of South Hadley, MA fired a final round two under par 68 to win the event. Werenski finished 17 under par for the tournament. In four rounds of golf he had one bogey. It came on the 14th hole in Saturday's final round.
