Female golfers from across the country hit the links Monday at The Summit Golf & Country Club to celebrate the success of the Golf Fore the Cure program which to date this season has raised $419,446 in support of breast cancer research.

Presented by Subaru, Golf Canada’s Golf Fore the Cure program is aimed at growing women’s golf participation in Canada by introducing the game through fun, non-intimidating activities.

Proceeds from over 180 Golf Fore the Cure sites across the country contribute to this national fundraising initiative and are donated to the Canadian Cancer Society as well as the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation. To date, over $4 million has been raised through the Golf Fore the Cure program in the fight against breast cancer.

“The Golf Fore the Cure program continues to yield a tremendous response across the country, and we are exceptionally proud of the efforts put forward by all of the participants thus far in 2012,” said Jeff Thompson, Golf Canada’s Chief Sport Development Officer. “We are thrilled that in nine years our fundraising contribution to breast cancer research has surpassed the $4 million mark.”

In all, 100 participants were on hand at The Summit Golf & Country Club to take part in the season-ending national event that celebrated the season-long program.

The event marks the successful conclusion to the 2012 Golf Fore the Cure season which featured over 180 women’s golf events from coast to coast with well over 15,000 women participating.

Golf Canada hosts a one-day national golf tournament in a scramble format to celebrate the conclusion of the season and its fundraising efforts. This one-day event recognizes supporters, sponsors and top fundraisers from all aspects of the program.
