Three Canadians will represent Canada at the 2013 Australian Amateur Championships set to begin in Melbourne on Tuesday.
Team Canada’s Garrett Rank of Elmira, Ont., West Vancouver’s David Rose and Mackenzie Rice will join alongside 288 other men and women in hopes of taking home Australia’s premier amateur golf crown.
The event will be contested from January 15-20 at the Commonwealth and Woodlands Golf Clubs, with seeding for elimination match play being determined after 36 holes of stroke play. The leading 64 men and 32 women will then be seeded and will square off in elimination match play to determine the eventual champion of the event.
Last week in Australia 25-year-old Rank finished in a tie for 11th at the Australian Master of the Amateurs in Melbourne, while Rose finished in a tie for 29th.
Dating back to 1894, the Australian Amateur Championships are Australia’s oldest golfing events. Champions of the tournament also receive an exemption into the prestigious 2013 Australian Open. Notable past championship include; Michael Campbell, Matt Goggin and Michael Clayton.
