David Rose, a 23-year-old from West Vancouver, BC and the 109th BC Amateur champion, was a semifinal casualty at the prestigious New South Wales Amateur in Sydney, Australia this past weekend.
Rose, who finished 17th in the 54-hole medal play, joined Elmira, Ont.’s Garrett Rank in the 32-player Match Play bracket. After knocking off the number 15 seed Andrew Thompson of New South Wales 3&2, the 18th seeded Rose topped the number two seed Nathan Kimsey of Great Britain, 1UP.
In his quarterfinal match, Rose again beat a top-10 seeded Great Britain player by handling Neil Raymond, 1UP. It was in the semifinal match against Victoria’s Ben Eccles (Australia) that Rose’s run came to an end, losing the match 2UP.
This was an impressive showcasing of David’s skill as he made it to the top-4 in a 200+ player field of best players in Australia and abroad.
Rank did not make it out of the first round of match play, losing to the home course and New South Wales resident Ruben Sondjaja 2&1.
