A Ram Choi of Surrey, BC came agonizingly close to the Folino Invitational golf title on Tuesday, losing by one stroke to Raychelle Santos of Gonzaga.
Choi led by two strokes with four holes to play, but made three bogeys coming in to finish at 75-72-72=219 for second place at the 6,067-yard Industry Hills Golf Club in Pacific Palms, CA.
Santos shot a one-under par 70 to win with a five-over par 74-74-70=218. She made five birdies on the day and posted her score prior to Choi finishing. Still, it was a brilliant performance by Choi, who started the day with a one-shot lead over Santos, and was at two-under par on her round after 14 holes. The Viking sophomore’s 219 total is one stroke off her Portland State-best, a two-over par 218 at last fall’s Rose City Collegiate Invitational that was good for the individual title.
A Ram is in her Sophomore year at Portland State University and a Monday Qualifier for the 2012 CN Canadian Women’s Open held at Vancouver Golf Club.
