Meet the women of 2013 Team Canada

Get better acquainted with the women of Team Canada’s 2013 National Team and Development Squad.

National Women’s Squad:

Brooke Henderson:

Currently the 23rd ranked amateur in the world, Brooke Henderson earned her position on this year’s National Team after becoming the youngest player to ever win a professional golf event after besting the field at a 2012 CN Canadian Women’s Tour stop in Beloeil, Que. in June at the age of 14 years, 9 months and 3 days.

The Smith Falls, Ont. native had an outstanding year in which she recorded three other victories, including wins at the Royale Cup Canadian Girls Championship, Ontario Junior Girls Championship and the AJGA Ravenwood Junior Girls Championship.

Henderson finished fifth at the Royale Cup Women’s Amateur Championship and posted top-3 finishes at both the CN Future Links Pacific Championship and CN Future Links Ontario Championship.

She qualified for the both the U.S. Junior and the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship and was also selected to represent Canada at the Women’s World Amateur Team Championship earlier this fall.

Henderson, 15, is currently the highest ranked Canadian female amateur in the World Amateur Golf Rankings at No. 38.

Augusta James:

James, a sophomore at North Carolina State University, returns to the National Squad for a second consecutive season.

A native of Bath, Ont., James was the runner-up at this year’s Ontario Women’s Amateur Championship and also finished tied for 17th at the Royale Cup Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship. James finished tied for 4th at the season-opening CN Canadian Women’s Tour event in B.C. and also recorded a 13th place finish at the CN Canadian Women’s Tour stop in Quebec.

As a freshman at North Carolina State University last season, James led her team with five top-10 finishes and a 74.14 stroke average. She also became the program’s first ever ACC Freshman of the Year.

Earlier this summer, James, 19, made it through to the Round of 16 at the Ladies’ British Open Amateur Championship and also finished tied for 12th at the Women’s World Amateur Team Championship in September.

She’s currently the 115th ranked amateur in the world.

Brittany Marchand:

Marchand returns to the National Squad after an impressive 2012 collegiate season.

The Orangeville, Ont., native captured the 2012 Ontario Women’s Amateur by seven shots earlier this year and also finished tied for 22nd at the Royale Cup Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship.

A junior at North Carolina State University, Marchand had a standout year for her team, posting two NCAA victories and becoming the first player ever to win multiple events in a single season for the Wolfpack. She was named the Golfweek National Player of the week in March and also was the ACC Women’s Golfer of the Month in February. She posted a sixth place finish at the NCAA Division I Championship.

The 20-year-old is currently the 121st ranked amateur in the world.

Jisoo Keel:

Seventeen-year-old Keel returns for her second straight year on the National Squad.

The Coquitlam, B.C. native started off her year by capturing the season-opening CN Canadian Women’s Tour event in B.C. with a 1-under par total.

She placed third at the 2012 Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Championship and also finished in a tie for 17th at the Royale Cup Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship.

Keel made it through to the Round of 32 at both the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship and the Ladies’ British Open Amateur Championship earlier this year.

Christine Wong:

The Richmond, B.C., native returns to the National Team for a third year in 2012-13.

A senior at San Diego State University, Wong had a superb year competing in the NCAA, winning the Bruin Wave Invitational and also finishing as the runner-up at the Mountain West Championship.

Earlier in the year, Wong also captured the B.C. Women’s Amateur Championship and set a new 72-hole scoring record of 274.

The 20-year-old made it through to the Round of 32 at both the Women’s Western Amateur Championship and also the Ladies’ British Open Amateur Championship

She’s currently the 184th ranked amateur in the world.

Developmental Squad:

Taylor Kim:

For the third year in a row, Taylor Kim will be a member of the Development Team. The 18-year-old finished second at the 2012 B.C. Junior Girls Championship, solo fourth at the Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Championship and also posted a tie for 17th at the CN Canadian Women’s Tour event in Quebec. The Surrey, B.C., native also finished tied for 4th at both the CN Future Links Pacific Championship and the B.C. Women’s Amateur Championship. Kim is currently in her freshman season at the University of Texas.

Naomi Ko:

Fifteen-year-old Ko makes her debut on the Development Squad after a solid season. The Victoria, B.C. native qualified for the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship earlier this year and also finished tied for 11th at the Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Championship. Ko finished in the top-3 at both the CN Future Links Pacific Championship and the CN Future Links Prairie Championship and also finished tied for 11th at the B.C. Women’s Amateur Championship.

Kathy Lim:

Lim is new to the Development Squad for the 2013 season. The 15-year-old Langley, B.C. native finished tied for 5th at the B.C. Junior Girls Championship and 21st at the Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Championship earlier this year. She tied for 9th at the CN Future Links Pacific Championship and tied for 6th at the CN Future Links Prairie Championship. Lim also posted two top-10 finishes at the PNGA Junior Girls Medal Play and Match Play championships in August.

Valérie Tanguay:

Tanguay joins the Development Team for the first time after a stellar season in her home province of Quebec. The St-Hyacinthe, Que. native won the Quebec Junior Girls Championship, finished second at the CN Future Links Quebec Championship and also finished tied for 9th at the CN Future Links Ontario Championship. The 17-year-old also won the Bouctouche East Coast Junior and finished 23rd at the Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Championship. In October, Tanguay claimed individual gold at the 2012 PING CCAA Golf National Championship.

Jennifer Ha:

The Calgary, Alta. native joins the Development squad for the first this year. The 18-year-old finished fifth at the 2012 Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Championship and also captured medalist honours at the Alberta Junior Girls Championship. She finished runner-up in the Alberta Ladies Amateur and also posted a top-15 finish at the CN Canadian Women’s Tour season-finale in Ontario. A sophomore at Kent State University, Ha was the 2012 Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year.
