Garrett Rank of Elmira, Ont., and Adam Svensson of Surrey, BC., will represent Canada at the Juan Carlos Tailhade Cup at the Los Lagartos Country Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina from November 8-11.
Two competitions are played concurrently at the Juan Carlos Tailhade Cup as competitors compete in an international team tournament and also an individual competition. In the team event, there are two players to a team with both players’ scores counting in each of the four rounds.
Team Holland returns this year as the defending champions after a two stroke victory over Team Australia in 2011. Team Canada finished 8th at last year’s event and has never won the competition.
Rank, a member of Team Canada’s National Squad, finished tied for 9th at the event last year and is coming off an exciting fall after placing second at the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship this September.
In 2012, the 25-year-old product of the University of Waterloo won the Canadian University/College Championship by three shots. Rank also reached the Round of 32 at this year’s U.S. Men’s Amateur Public Links Championship, and finished tied for 15th at the 2012 Porter Cup.
Svensson, captured the 2012 Canadian Junior Boys Championship after a final round 7-under-par, 64. In his home province of BC he finished tied for 9th at the BC Amateur Championship as well as placing tied for 2nd at the CN Future Links Pacific Championship. The 18-year-old also finished second at the 2012 Mexican Amateur and placed third at the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup.
