Calgary’s Matt Williams, a member of Team Canada’s Development Squad, has given a verbal commitment to play college golf at the University of Houston in 2014.
“(Coach Jonathan Dismuke and Coach Chris Hill) have incredible knowledge of the short game, and will be the right people in assisting me to be successful playing college and then professional golf,” Williams said. “I strongly believe Houston will provide me with every opportunity to be successful both on and off the golf course.”
The Cougars current roster already boasts a pair of Canadian freshmen, including former Team Canada member Blair Hamilton of Burlington, Ont., and Emmett Oh of Calgary. Team Canada Development Squad member Matthew Scobie of Ajax, Ont. will enroll at the University of Houston in the fall of 2013.
Williams, who made unofficial visits to both Washington and Oregon State prior to committing to Houston, is the top-ranked Canadian in the Golfweek Boys Rankings.
This past summer, Williams captured the CN Future Links Ontario Championship and the Alberta Junior Boys Championship. He also placed fourth at the Callaway Junior World Championships.
