Fifteen-year-old Team Canada National Squad member Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont. is one of 33 female competitors slated to tee-it-up December 27-30 at the 49th playing of the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship being held at the Donald Ross designed Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Fla.
The prestigious tournament, which features both a male and female division for competitors ages 18 and under, is conducted over 72 holes of stroke play over four days. If necessary, sudden-death playoffs will be utilized to decide the winners.
Last December, South Korea’s Hyo Joo Kim and Chile’s Juan Cerda were crowned champions. Kim earned a wire-to-wire win in the Girls’ Championship, edging out France’s Perrina Delacour by a stroke. Cerda, meanwhile, claimed the Boys’ Championship title with an eagle on the third playoff hole against Belgium’s Thomas Detry.
Henderson, the reigning Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Championship and Ontario Junior Girls Championship titleholder , placed third at the Junior Orange Bowl in 2011, finishing just three strokes back of Kim with a four-day tally of even-par 284.
Following the Junior Orange Bowl, Henderson will compete in the 2013 Copa de las Americas, January 3-6, 2013, at Doral Resort and Spa in Miami, Fla.
