A single stroke separated Brittany Marchand from repeating as individual champion at Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge Tuesday, in Miami, FL.
The NC State junior held a one-stroke lead over Wolfpack teammate Lindsay McGetrick heading into the final round after firing rounds of 69-71 Monday. She closed with a 1-over par 73, to trade places atop the leaderboard with her teammate at the conclusion of the tournament. Marchand’s opening round 69 was her lowest round of the year for the Wolfpack. The Orangeville, Ont., native currently has three overall NCAA titles at NC State.
Teammate Augusta James of Bath, Ont., continued her strong spring play after firing a final round 2-under par 70. She finished in solo third, two strokes behind McGetrick for her second top-5 finish in 2013.
As the 20th ranked team in the nation, NC State finished 12 strokes ahead of Florida International to capture the overall team title at 10-over par. NC State’s next event is the Juli Inkster Invitational March 4-5.
