Team Canada continues to lead the 20 team field at The Spirit International Amateur Championship at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas, through 36 holes of play, after posting a men’s and women’s combined score of 2-under par (142) on Thursday to sit at 14-under par (274) for the tournament. Team Canada holds a three-stroke advantage over defending champions Team USA heading into Friday’s action.

National Squad members Mackenzie Hughes of Dundas, Ont., and Garrett Rank of Elmira, Ont., sit atop the men’s division with a two-day tally of 12-under par (132), leading Team Japan and Team South Africa by four strokes as the pair combined to shoot 4-under par (68) on day two. Hughes, who converted six birdies on Wednesday, added two more to go along with an eagle on the par-5 12th hole. Rank also posted two birdies on the round, bringing his tournament total to 7.

On the women’s side, Taylor Kim of Surrey, B.C., and Mackenzie Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont., sit T6 at 2-under par (142) after posting a score of 2-over par (74). Henderson converted the lone birdie of the day for the Development Squad duo, who trail the leaders from Argentina by five strokes.

Team Canada is looking to improve upon its T8 overall showing from the 2009 event that saw the men’s team finish tied for 4th and women’s team finish 16th.
