CN Canadian Women's Open Pro-Am

On Track with the CN Canadian Women’s Open

Penning in from Winnipeg this week as the stars of the LPGA Tour are here at St. Charles Country Club teeing it up in the 2010 CN Canadian Women’s Open.

Scott Simmons, Golf Canada Executive Director/CEO

The championship has set the gold standard for events on the LPGA Tour along with our proud partners at CN, we are so thrilled with how the event has evolved over the past several years. It’s the combined efforts of so many special groups and individuals that contribute the event’s success year in and year out.

CN is a blue chip Canadian company and just a fabulous partner for the event. When CN does something, anything, they do it first-rate. That same level of excellence has been a major reason for the event’s continued success ever since they came onboard in 2006. Make no mistake, before CN came on board five years ago, this event was in a really tough position and to see how far the event has come in only a few short years is truly remarkable.

Philanthropy is a major focus of the CN Canadian Women’s Open and frankly speaking, it’s the number one reason why CN is involved with the event. Through CN Miracle Match, more than $3.5 million has been raised for children’s hospitals across the country in the name of the tournament. To be able to conduct our national championship in cities across the country while helping to leave a lasting charitable legacy in the community is truly special.

Many thanks go out to the membership of St Charles Country Club for allowing us to contest the Open at this fabulous traditional style golf course. One of our 1,600 proud Golf Canada member clubs, St. Charles is hosting the stars of the LPGA for the first time in 18 years and is sure to once again leave a lasting impression on the entire field of competitors.

I also want to thank the 1,400 volunteers who are playing a part in this year’s Open. We absolutely could not conduct the event without the commitment and support of our volunteer committee – year after year they are engine that drives our success and we are so thankful of their passion and support for the CN Canadian Women’s Open.

Competing for our national open title is a dream for all aspiring Canadian golfers and no doubt fans from coast to coast will be rooting on each of our 14 Canadians in the field as they look for a strong showing here on home soil. Fittingly, this year we will honour two of this country’s finest Canadian golfers – Marlene Streit and Sandra Post – with awards in their honour. The low amateur to will take home the Marlene Stewart Streit medal while the Sandra Post award will be given to the lowest scoring Canadian player. A fitting tribute to a pair of honoured members of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame.

For those that can’t join us onsite, please enjoy our souvenir program and follow the news, interviews and stories as they happen on www.cncanadianwomensopen.com and www.golfcanada.ca.

Whether you’re attending the event live at St. Charles or enjoying the television broadcast on CBC this week, I invite you to tune in as we write the next chapter in the storied history of the Canada’s only LPGA Tour event.
