Calgary will be among the tournament stops this year on the revamped PGA Tour Canada schedule.
The Talon Course at Country Hills Golf Club will play host to the ATB Financial Classic presented by TELUS this June, one of at least eight stops on the PGA Tour Canada calender.
The tournament returns to Calgary for the first time since 2011 after Edmonton played host to the event last year.
PGA Tour Canada president Jeff Monday says its their intention to have the event become a permanent stop in Calgary, rotating it among prominent golf courses in the area.
"We are confident that having this tournament on the PGA Tour Canada schedule will create a bigger impact in the Calgary community and be a marquee event on the Tour," he said.
Calgary is also set to play host to its first Champions Tour event scheduled at Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club in September.
The PGA Tour officially assumed control of the former Canadian Tour late last year after coming to the financial aid of the 42-year old Canadian circuit, providing it with an operating loan in 2012. PGA Tour Canada will stage a minimum of eight tournaments in 2013 with the goal of growing the schedule up to 13 events with a minimum purse of $150,000. All of the events will be staged in Canada and during the summer months.
Under the new structure, the leading money winner on the PGA Tour Canada will have full status on the Web.com Tour while the next four players on the Order of Merit will have conditional status. The next five players will gain exemption into the newly reformed Q-School, which will be used to graduate players to the Web.com Tour.
