Each week we write to Golf Canada members who record a hole-in-one, congratulating them and asking if they’d tell us how it happened. These are their stories (edited for length and clarity).

Idriss Zarrouk, Club Sports Belvedere, Hole #9
Idriss, a Golf Canada staff member, hit his second hole-in-one on hole #9 at Club Sports Belvedere. Idriss thought he hit the ball long and spent 15 minutes looking for his ball, only to realize it was in the cup! Despite playing solo, Idriss was able to celebrate on the phone with a longtime friend who just happened to call when he discovered his feat. The distance was 173 yards and he used a 9 iron.

Abbie Wisener, Mill River Golf Club, Hole #5
The hole-in-one happened during the PGA Atlantic Dormie Women’s Pro-Am at Mill River Resort. I was playing alongside Alicia Kenny, Candace Allinotte, Melika LeBlanc and Ali Dolan, members of Moncton Golf Club whom I had the pleasure of meeting after starting there as the Head Golf Professional in the fall.
The shot was 97 yards, I hit a 54° wedge and made my first-ever hole-in-one. It was one of those picture-perfect golf holes, playing downhill over the water with a perfect view of the cup. To top it all off, our team went on to win the tournament that day. What I’ll remember most, though, is who I got to share that memory with. I couldn’t have picked a better group of people to experience that moment alongside and I’d argue they were even more excited than I was. The shot was great, but the memory I’ll carry forever is all of us jumping up and down on the tee box together like a group of kids.
Growing up, I was often the only junior girl at my golf club, so I never had the chance to share moments like that with a group of girlfriends. I had no idea what I was missing. That’s why this memory means more than the hole-in-one itself. Getting to celebrate with an incredible group of women during a women’s event is something I’ll cherish forever and never take for granted.
Bev Wiebe, Evergreen Golf Centre, Hole #17
I played with my husband Gord. First game of the season, first hole, first swing. I used my new TaylorMade hybrid that I had just bought the season before, but hadn’t used much. I just thought this was the year I’m going to love my hybrid. Took a practice swing and then hit it beautifully. Landed on the green then I lost sight of it. I was happy because I thought I could birdie it but when I got to the green and looked for my ball, I couldn’t find it until I finally looked in the hole. That was so exciting!
Catherine Rosso, Crosswinds Golf & Country Club, Hole #5
I am 65 years old and have been golfing since I was ten years old. I took a bit of hiatus during my child rearing years! The hole-in-one was on a short par 3 measuring 87 yards. I used my gap wedge to make the shot. The sad part is we didn’t actually see it go in the hole because there is a slight berm at the front of the green so we didn’t realize till we walked up but we knew it was a close shot. I was playing with three girls in my regular golf group, Jane Gair, Donna Stark and Deb Haggart.
Jeremiah Jesin-Neuberger, Oakdale Golf & Country Club, Hole #11
I was playing alone that day but when I arrived at hole #11, there was a foursome on the tee box who allowed me to play through after they all teed off. I played the blue tees and jarred it from 165 with a 7 iron. Truth be told, I caught it a little thin and the low liner hit the front edge and rolled across the green before it dropped into the cup. Lucky for me there are no pictures on the score card and I had plenty of witnesses for the occasion even though I was playing alone most of the day. There were also foursomes on the greens of hole #6 and hole #8, who all had a view of the special moment. Funny thing is we had a men’s league the next day with a closest to the pin event on that hole and I knocked one into heavy wind from the same tee with a 6 iron, about as sweet as I could hit it, into about 12 inches. I won the closest to the pin and closed out the birdie to make a total of 3 strokes on that hole over the span of two days! Our old pro, Canadian golf hall of Fame member, Wilf Homenuik, used to say they come in bunches and it turns out he wasn’t kidding!
