Golf Canada is saddened to learn of the passing of longtime volunteer and former president David Douglas Shaw of Saint John, N.B.
David died Sept. 9 at Saint John Regional Hospital. He was 81.
David served as president of the Royal Canadian Golf Association, now Golf Canada, in 2004. He also served as president of the New Brunswick Golf Association and Riverside Country Club in Rothesay, N.B.
During his presidency, David represented Golf Canada at events around the world, including The Masters Tournament, U.S. Open, The Open Championship, RBC Canadian Open and Australian Open. He was also a member of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews in Scotland.
David joined Riverside at age 17 and was recently named an honorary lifetime member. This past summer, he shot his age at the club and in September 2023, he recorded the fourth hole-in-one of his golfing career.
Away from golf, David was a chartered accountant and former vice-president of finance and administration at Saint John Regional Hospital. He also served as president of the New Brunswick Institute of Chartered Accountants and received the Fellow Chartered Accountant designation.
David is survived by Lynda, his wife of 57 years, their three children, nine grandchildren and extended family.
Golf Canada joins Golf New Brunswick in extending sincere condolences to the Shaw family and David’s many friends across the Canadian golf community.
