Hole in One Report

Golf Canada Hole-In-One Report – October, 2026

hole-in-one

Each week we write to Golf Canada members who record a hole-in-one, congratulating them and asking if they’d tell us how it happened. These are their stories (edited for length and clarity).

Have you recently accomplished the feat of a hole-in-one? Tell us about it! Share your story, picture / video and course information with us at holeinone@golfcanada.ca.

My hole-in-one was on hole #14 at Picton Golf & Country Club. Front pin, 120 yards from the red tees with an 8 iron. I have only golfed for 1.5 seasons so this is my first full season. I picked up golfing in my late 20’s after having six knee surgeries from playing contact sports. I loved the sport quickly and started playing any time I could (even at the simulator in the winter and taking lessons).

I was golfing with John W., Henry C., and Michael D. I had played many rounds with them this season. The fourteenth green is right in front of the 15th tees and the group ahead of us was two guys from the pro shop Rylan and Liam and two others that I golf with often Garry and Greg. The Marshall, Rex, was on a round and was right there along with two girls from the greens crew were also there and witnessed.

To highlight, it was an 8 iron into a soft head wind to a front pin. Landed about five yards left of the hole but had enough fade that it rolled right in! I was able to see it drop but thought maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me until the group on the tee block behind it started cheering!

Kathy Thompson, Stanhope Golf & Country Club, Hole #13

It was very exciting to ace hole #13 by using my 8 iron with water on both sides. The yardage on the card said 108, as I don’t use a rangefinder. My witnesses were my friends and members of Stanhope, Lorna MacDougall and Gloria Basha.

Kim Koss, Earl Grey Golf Club, Hole #9

Our tee time was on a Friday at 2:54 pm starting on the first tee of Earl Grey Golf Club in Calgary.

Our foursome included the following players who are all members of Earl Grey. Kendra Koss (Golf Canada Board member and my wife!), Kim Koss (myself), George Bamber and Jayden Arnold.

I was playing from the blue tee and the hole was playing 163 yards. I used a 6 iron and we all saw the ball go into the hole after one quick bounce on the green in of the pin and then disappeared into the hole!

It is a tradition at Earl Grey that you ring the bell in our clubhouse and everyone in the club are provided a drink by the club. As a result my hole-in-one was received very favourably by all our members in attendance that evening after our round.

Liam Abbott, Foxwood Golf Club, Hole #5

My hole-in-one was pretty cool and lucky. I was playing with my buddies Preston and Will. On my range finder I read 152 yards from a back pin. I took out 9 iron because I wanted to attack the pin since it was a straight shot. So I line up and take my swing and right as I hit it I knew it was super thin. So my buddy Will asked, “did you hit it good” and I said no. The ball hit off the front fringe and started rolling to the hole and then it disappeared. Preston started going nuts, so we start running towards the hole and the groundskeepers are clapping and sure enough it’s in the hole. I was hitting a Taylormade TP5 Pix. That’s pretty much the story!

My friends Darlene Homonko, Tatiana Langmuir, Lily Liu and I were competing in a Ladies Club Championship Four Ball trophy event, the Marjorie McKenzie. Everyone in our group was playing pretty well and having a good time. On the 16th hole, as we were playing the green tees (and not our usual yellow), the pin was center green about 105 yards, over to the right, so that one of the bunkers or the incline beside it was a risk. My partner Darlene hit over the bunker almost to the penalty area and I thought, reluctantly, that I should play it safe and hit to the center of the green. Then I thought, “Nah, I’m going for the pin.” Choked down on a pitching wedge, hit it well, and I was pleased that it looked close. The ball (a new yellow Callaway Chrome Tour Triple Track, given to me by my 90-year-old dad for my birthday) had landed in the shadow of the pin, so we could not see it exactly. But then Tatiana and Darlene said it was in the hole. I could see a bump that I thought was the ball. But they insisted, so I checked with my distance finder and no ball visible!

Because we were in a tournament (we played well but unfortunately even with the ace, no trophy for us that day), It was nice to share the day with a big group or 40+ teams, some sparkling rosé and an excellent lunch.

Brett Geiser, Sleepy Hollow Golf & Country Club, Hole #7

Playing the last round of the year with my buddy Jeff. Its a blind tee shot over a hill so we had an idea that it might be on the green based on the line and making great contact. When we got down there we found Jeff’s ball just right of the bunker but no sign of mine in the bunker so I started marching directly towards the hole and I have been in shock ever since because it was actually in the cup. It marks my third hole-in-one of my career and also my third albatross. A hole-in-one on a par 4 is always something I knew was a possibility and a goal but never thought it would actually come to fruition. Coolest moment in my golfing career.
