Elise Lee and Shauna Liu lead field at 3-under through seven holes;
only 77 players began play on Tuesday

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – The opening round of the 112th Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship, presented by BDO was suspended for the day at 3:51 p.m. due to dangerous weather at The Toronto Golf Club in Mississauga, Ont.
Thunderstorms in the early hours of Tuesday morning brought a 1.5-hour delay to the start of the national championship with the first groups starting at 9 a.m. EDT. Another stoppage followed just after 11 a.m. that lasted over three hours with play resuming for an hour at 2:40 p.m. before the horns sounded again, ending play for the day just before 4 p.m. locally.
At the conclusion of play, Team Canada NextGen member, Shauna Liu (Maple, Ont.) and Elise Lee of Irvine, Calif. hold the co-lead at 3-under through their first seven holes. Taylor Kehoe (Strathroy, Ont.), Ella Weber (Burlington, Ont.) and Sophie Eppelstun sit 2-under with Kehoe through seven and Weber and Eppelstun through three holes.
Team Ontario leads the Inter-Provincial Team Championship at a collective 1-under through seven holes, holding a four-shot lead on Team Manitoba. Team Ontario is represented by Kaprice Park (Oakville, Ont.), Kaylan Green (Toronto, Ont.), Lilli Downer (Keswick, Ont.). The inter-provincial team competition runs concurrently through the first 36 holes of the tournament.
Seventy-seven (77) players in the field of 156 were able to begin their rounds on Tuesday. Play will resume at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday with the second round expected to begin at 2:45 p.m.
The low 70 players and ties will advance to the final two rounds of the national championship. Along with earning the Duchess of Connaught Gold Cup, the winner will receive an exemption into the field for the 2026 CPKC Women’s Open at Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton, Alta., August 19 – 23 and the 2026 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship in Ooltewah, Tenn., August 4 – 9.
Having debuted in 1901 at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Que., the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship stands as one of the oldest amateur golf events in the world. Current LPGA Tour stars Ariya Jutanugarn (2012), Brooke Henderson (2013), Hye-Jin Choi (2016), Jennifer Kupcho (2017), and Yealimi Noh (2018) have all lifted the Duchess of Connaught Gold Cup, presented annually to the Canadian Women’s Amateur champion – though none have matched Marlene Stewart Streit’s 11 victories that helped her become the first-ever Canadian inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame (2004).
